Supervision

I know from my own experience how formative and powerful the relationship is between supervisor and supervisee and how supportive it is to practice. As a supervisor I offer a safe, compassionate and boundaried space, where the supervisee can reflect on their relationships, practice and ethics in the therapy room, resource themselves well and flourish in their work

I offer clinical supervision in person in Edinburgh or online during the following hours.

Supervision is such an important part of safe, professional therapeutic practice. I have been fortunate to experience the profound value of superb supervisors, each of whom offered something wise, unique and particular. With them as my role models, my own style and approach continues to emerge and adjust for each supervisee.  I remain grounded in my primary training in Mindfulness Core Process Psychotherapy and draw on psychodynamic approaches, parts work, trauma informed therapeutic models and TA.  I qualified with a Diploma in Counselling Supervision through Physis Edinburgh.

A particular interest for me in supervision is the therapist’s capacity to remain steadily available, regulating when activation threatens our ease and finding kind, healthy ways to access and maintain our boundaries when we work, particularly with those clients who trigger our defences most strongly. For this reason I am often (but not exlusively) drawn to supporting therapists working with complex trauma, dissociation, and diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health conditions.  The power of supervision is perhaps reflected in the supervisee’s consistent readiness to bring themselves with the challenging, juicy material that is not always easy to face, theirs and their clients’. Equally potent though, is the opportunity to linger with and celebrate those moments of humour, surprise and joy in the supervisee’s client experiences, moments which can otherwise be overlooked or even actively avoided, as if we should only really be interested in the messy, difficult stuff.

I aspire to always offer a relaxed, calm space, resonant with warmth and dynamic inquiry and to meet supervisees where they are in their practice. This way I can grow as they grow.
